A common issue encountered with ground mount structures in the Northeast is the installation in difficult conditions due to dense or rocky soils as well as solid bedrock. Our crews have the ability to install our custom ground screws in any of these soil conditions by predrilling pile locations with the use of a carbide rock auger or drilling into solid rock with our down-the-hole hammer attachment.

These features include equipment support columns for mounting electrical equipment, black panel mounting hardware for a sleek appearance, micro-inverter mounting hardware for a secure and simple connection, and torque limiters to maintain precise control when mounting solar panels to our structures.

Meet The Team

James Douglas
Director of Engineering

James Douglas is the Director of Engineering for Solar Foundations USA. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering both from Cornell University, James has previous work experience as a Structural Engineer for a NY based AE Firm and as a Project Lead and acting Facilities Design Engineering Manager for Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. He is currently a licensed engineer in 18 states primarily along the east coast.

James is responsible for ensuring every solar array design conforms to each state’s Building Code requirements and remains within the tested design parameters of each solar component. With over 6 years of designing solar arrays, James oversees an Engineering Department that provides complete engineering services with a focus on working with customers to achieve the best value and lowest possible cost per watt basis for each customer’s unique needs.

James oversees every project from beginning to end, including project scheduling, selecting, supervising, and deploying the installation teams and the appropriate materials for each job. He works with each crew to make sure every job is handled quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively regardless of project conditions.

When not in the office, James enjoys golfing and vacations by the shore!

Solar Foundations USA had the pleasure of installing this 75.6kW ground mount array in Lewes, MD.   This 3-beam structure was designed for 8-panel columns high in landscape by 23-panel columns wide and is the largest single array that SFUSA has installed to date!   The flat, level ground made for a smooth install with out the need to separate into smaller arrays. Our two-man crew was able to complete this installation in just three days.
